Yeah that's the biggest reason I've upgraded. I'd probably still be running android 4 if Walmart, for example, didn't require at least 5 to run. What's with shopping apps requiring some high android level anyway?
I buy everything up front these days. I gave up credit cards for the most part about 14 years ago and have been quite happy (and strangely have had much more disposable income since then).
That's awesome, and impressive.
The other reasons I like a newer high end phone is I use it primarily for the portable computer aspect. I probably make about 4 to 6 calls a month (unless I'm out of town), and 2 of them are to order Pizza. Lol. But I use it to remote into work, write code, tinker with stuff etc.
OK let me ask you guys this, because this and the wifi hotspot are the biggest uses of my phone - like you said, I don't make that many calls. I use TeamViewer, as I'm assuming you do. Have you guys found any good way to use it as a dumb terminal with a bluetooth keyboard and mouse? The keyboard I have works fine but using a mouse with TeamViewer doesn't work. Have you figured that out? It would be huge because there are many times I would stop lugging around my laptop to remote to home if I could do that.
FWIW though, to someone reading this thread actually looking to buy, the Moto e4 I have runs teamviewer just fine, I think it's just a teamviewer thing.
The last reason is similar to Shane's in that I was also brought up low income. After doing my time in the Service, Spending 26+ years or so busting my ass in the IT Industry, and recovering from a bad financial situation in the middle of that, I now have the leisure of disposable income. Being single adds to that hehe.
In any case, with age comes Wisdom. It's not about following the Jones or feeling we 'deserve' the latest and greatest (like so many Millennials do sadly). Its more like, we know we can spend a little extra on ourselves and still be responsible with whats left.
I get it, I just don't feel that it's a best use of money for me. I'm one of those people that gets by with whatever the cheapest thing that will do the job. Not cheap enough that I will avoid paying to get the job done right, though. I have no problems buying used cars, tools at harbor freight, used computers, tech, etc. Like I said, to each their own. I guess I was hoping you power phone users could convince me its worth buying a better phone next time.
